Next on my reading list is John Irving's Last Night in Twisted River. And after that? The Mayor of Casterbridge.
I like characters. And their thoughts, and their feelings, and their complexes, and their strengths.
I also like scenery. And its vistas, its weather, its milieu.
I also like plot. And I don't have to be embarrassed anymore. Plot is cool. John Irving said so.

I read the Mayor of Casterbridge a long time ago - and just reading the title there, made me think of dusty roads and the atmosphere of the book. It's that kind of read. It lingers in the senses.
Love him!
I saw this interview, Michelle, and LOVED that Irving said he writes his last sentence first -- that he can't possibly begin his story until that last line is written. I too find comfort in this process, and feel utterly discombobulated when I can't call it forth.
