#17: North Clairemont Branch

NORTH CLAIREMONT BRANCH
Visiting Time: 4:00-5:00PM
Did I get lost on my way? No!
Book Checked Out: The Driver (Alexander Roy)

Book Selection: 2 bookmarks
Seating: 2 bookmarks
Staff: 4 bookmarks
Architecture/Atmosphere: 3 bookmarks
Total: 11 bookmarks

When I pulled up to this library and saw its zigzag roof, I was transported back to my childhood, and the Girl and Boy Scout events in Orange County that I associate with this architecture.

The Mini that Bryan and I ordered has been on my mind lately (mainly in the form of, "When's it gonna be here? Why isn't it here?"), so I checked out The Driver, which is about a man's experiences in open-road car rallies and races, including the Gumball 3000. And again, I was transported back to my childhood, when I loved watching our Beta copies of "The Cannonball Run" and "The Gumball Rally." While the author has a frustratingly poor grasp of the past perfect tense, it's still an interesting read.

This is a cool idea. However, I have to ask if before this you had been using the libraries. You seem suprised by certain things that anyone who uses or works at the library knows to be true. For instance, the # of people talking to themselves, the number of people there just to use the internet, etc.

As for them not letting you take pictures at the City Heights Branch, honestly, I'm surprised the other branches did let you. In the interest of keeping the weirdos away from kids, (because a library is full of unattended children)it seems like a good idea for all libraries to follow this protocol.

By the way, Mission Valley Branch has a guard as well.

See, that's the thing. I use libraries a lot by having a book transferred to my local branch, going in, picking it up, checking it out, and getting out. Now, I'm trying to spend more time inside the branches, wander, and see what I can find. I am finding books I never thought I wanted to read, but am so glad I have.

My comment about the number of people talking to themselves was my sorry attempt at a joke. :)

As for guards, you are completely right. I think all branches have guards. I hadn't noticed them in everyone, but I think they must be there.
