#1: Mountain View/Beckwourth Branch

Visiting Time: 2:00-3:00 PM
Did I get lost on my way? Yes

Book Selection: 2 bookmarks
Seating: 2 bookmarks
Staff: 4 bookmarks
Architecture: 1 bookmark
Total: 9 bookmarks

I began with Beckwourth because I sometimes request book transfers from this branch, and had no idea where it was. Plus, the other half of its name is "Mountain View." Who wouldn't want a buena vista while borrowing books?

This small branch was quite busy. A line of people was waiting to use the Internet.

Tonight I plan to perform excerpts from One Hundred Women's Stage Monologues from the 1980's (The Real Queen of Hearts Ain't Even Pretty by Brad Bailey and Sally and Marsh by Sybille Pearson) for Bryan.

While looking at the monologues in this book (at a table with a hard wooden chair) I overheard a man beside me talk with a librarian about books on Elvis memorabilia. The branch only had general books on celebrity collectibles, but she was extremely helpful in bringing him books.

The building is small and several decades old, but along the top of the four walls are rectangular windows that let in plenty of natural light. And outside is a large, grassy, shady park.

As for the branch's namesake? You can read about him here.

What a great idea! I'm looking forward to see how they stack up. If San Diego still has bookmobiles, will you be visiting and rating one?

OK, I see where this is going. By chance will you wait til the Mini is delivered so you can make your trek in stile?
:-)

Actually, I will (hopefully) have visited all 36 libraries before the Mini arrives. I am thinking of this libraries adventure as a farewell tour of the Green Dragon.

I don't know of any Bookmobiles in San Diego, but I should look into it.
